Critical Care

24/7 intensivist-led care for the critically ill.

Daihika's critical care service runs the 40-bed ICU with continuous intensivist coverage. The unit is organised to handle the full range of critical illness — respiratory failure, sepsis, neurological emergencies, post-operative recovery and trauma resuscitation — and includes a dedicated neuro sub-unit serving the wider neurosciences programme.

Care is multidisciplinary by design: intensivists work alongside the primary specialty team (neurology, neurosurgery, surgery, cardiology) and nursing, respiratory and pharmacy services to deliver coordinated minute-by-minute decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Who can visit a patient in the ICU?
ICU access is restricted to one nominated attendant per patient at designated visiting times. Updates are shared at fixed times by the duty intensivist. Please ask the nursing station for the schedule on admission.
How are decisions made about a patient on a ventilator?
Decisions are made daily by the intensivist team with input from the primary specialty team. The patient's family is kept informed and involved in major decisions including treatment direction and goals of care.
What happens when a patient is ready to leave the ICU?
Stable patients are stepped down to the high-dependency or general ward. Many post-ICU patients benefit from time in our 20-bed step-down/rehabilitation unit before going home.
